Lucy’s on a folklore quest for Awen’s Call…

Lucy Spencer, irrepressible folklore forager, has joined the Awen’s Call troupe, making our shows and events even more colourful with her creative and artistic abilities – as well as her extensive knowledge of folk religions, earth-based spirituality and down-to-earth, practical mysticism!

Lucy has been intrigued and inspired by folk tales and the ‘Old Ways’ of the countryside since her childhood growing up in rural Oxfordshire – where May Day celebrations and corn dolly making were normal village traditions!

From a young age she found that she could instinctively feel energy in a room. Her father, an estate agent, often took her along when measuring up a house and Lucy became his 10-year-old advisor as to the atmosphere and vibes of a building! Following her growing fascination with the esoteric, Lucy would explore old houses and abandoned buildings on teenage ghost hunts, and take moonlit walks with only a single torch and an eager imagination.

Coming from an ancestral line of intuitive Welsh ‘wise women’, her innate interest in the mystical and mythical has developed and she is on a continual quest to explore the folklore of Wales, ancient crafts, photography, family stories, and a technique she calls ‘communicating through time’ in order to better understand the past. She draws on her professional interest in art, design and creativity and applies it to channel Awen inspiration.

Amongst her current projects, she travels regularly to Cornwall to discover sacred sites, ancient stone circles and local folklore. A fascinating guest for UK folklore podcasts, she’ll soon be bringing her breadth of knowledge to our own podcast, too!
